Brendon Morgan-Smith, 22, of Wakeford Street, was driving a Mitsubishi Lancer when police saw his car and a Holden Commodore sedan speed past at 11.30pm.
Police were travelling in the opposite direction to the racers, who accelerated when the Anson Street traffic light turned green, and they were also captured on council CCTV for 350 metres at an average speed of 75km/h in a 50km/h zone, from a standing start.

On Monday, Morgan-Smith represented himself in Orange Local Court where magistrate David Day fined him $1100 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
Morgan-Smith said the other driver pulled up next to him at the traffic light “and I thought it was a good idea at the time”.
The female driver of the Holden is due to appear in court on October 22.
