Cider and craft beer will be the drinks of choice for adults while a jumping castle, face-painting and a jenga blocks game will provide plenty of entertainment for children of all ages at the inaugural Festival In a Small Hall event on Saturday.

And in a change to some other Wine Festival events which can be pricey for families, a gold coin will get you entry to the event at Nashdale Hall from 11am-6pm.

There will also be live music from Andy Nelson and Liv Mirrington.

Food will include wood fired pizzas from the onsite pizza oven plus local cheese and dip boards.

And there will even be cider- and beer-flavoured gelato.

One of the organisers, Gail Kendell of Small Acres Cyder, said they wanted to include families in the Wine Festival experience.

“We just wanted to put on something a little bit different that was kid-friendly. You need a balance,” she said.

Fellow organiser Peter Gerber of Pioneer Brewing Co said the region had plenty of variety to showcase.

“We just want to show there is more than wine. You’ve got cider, you’ve got breweries,” he said.

“It is a family-friendly event.”

The festival starts in Orange on Friday night with the  Orange Wine Show Tasting and Masterclass at the Hotel Canobolas from 5.30pm-8.30pm.

The regular Orange Wine Festival Night Market is in Robertson Park the following Friday, October 19 from 5.30pm-8.30pm with a gold coin entry.

More than 50 stalls will have local wines and food accompanied by music plus activities for the children.

Apart from an array of tastings, tours, workshops and events at wineries and restaurants throughout the region you can also check out the Mixed Dozen art exhibition at the Colour City Creatives gallery and studios in Peisley Street starting this weekend.

The Rotary Community Market, with about 100 stalls, is in Moulder Park from 9am-2pm on Sunday October 14.
