ORANGE largely missed out on the torrential downpours last week which gave the Dubbo region’s drought-stricken farmers more than their average October rain in one hit.

According to data at www.weatherzone.com.au, which takes its reading at Orange Regional Airport, Orange has received 27.6 millimetres of rain so far this month.
That figure seems to be on track to match the city’s 50-year October average of 81.4 millimetres. Most of that rain fell on Friday, when 21.4 millimetres was recorded.
But it was a different – and far damper – story to Orange’s north, especially in the Dubbo region, where the monthly tally has already hit 62.8 millimetres, well up on the long-term mean of 46.6 millimetres.
A potential spell is expected on Friday but there are currently no signs of heavy rain.
- Weatherzone senior meteorologist Jacob Cronje
According to both the data and weatherzone senior meteorologist Jacob Cronje, the Orana region enjoyed the best of the last week’s downpours in the Central West.
“It was so far the best rain in the area. We have noticed nothing as heavy as seen in the last week,” he said.
Mr Cronje said isolated showers were forecast in Orange in the coming week, though he cautioned against expecting anything too substantial.
“A potential spell is expected on Friday but there are currently no signs of heavy rain,” he said.
According to weatherzone’s seven-day forecast, there is no more than a 70 per cent chance of between one and five millimetres due for Orange in the near future.
Elsewhere in the Central West last week, Cowra recorded 34.6 millimetres, while Forbes (31.6 millimetres) and Lithgow (31.3 millimetres) were also on the wet side of the ledger.
The predominantly dry spells continued in Parkes (9.2 millimetres) and Mudgee (7.4 millimetres).
