Marking 100 years since Australia’s involvement in ‘The Great War’, the exhibition features copies of maps, photographs and works of art, on loan from the Australian War Memorial.
Orange Ex-Services’ Club’s Roslyn Davidson said having the pictorial display in the foyer of the club helps keep the memory of our soldiers alive.
“The more time that passes the more people forget, and it’s extremely important that doesn’t happen,” said Ms Davidson, who spent 10 years in the Royal Australian Army Nursing corps.
The collection commemorates the battles of 1918, which left the Australian forces near exhaustion, having suffered devastating losses during the German spring offensives and at Dernancourt.
The display is the final portion of a three-part exhibition traveling to clubs across NSW during the centenary commemorations.
Included on the billboards’ stories is Sir John Monash, who led an attack at Le Hamel in France, months before a decisive victory during The Battle of Amiens.
Ex-Services’ acting CEO Graham Gentles said the exhibition – on display until October 29 – was central to the club’s role in remembrance and education.
