Visit the gallery over the next two months and experience the work of one of Australia’s most accomplished artists.
‘The Forever One Day’ is a survey exhibition presenting figurative paintings, drawings and bronzes by Kevin Connor. For more than six decades Connor has observed the comings and goings of ordinary people in cities around the world.
A highly skilled and prolific draughtsman, he records these daily encounters in a dedicated drawing practice he likens to meditation—translating what he sees and setting the foundation for all other work.
Everything that comes after—large scale paintings, gouaches and sculptures—would not exist without these initial sketches created in every day places around the world.
More than 600 of these sketchbooks drawings have been installed for the exhibition – pinned, wall-paper-style they present a powerful display of dedication and a singular sensitivity to the shared human experience.
‘The Forever One Day’ continues until November 25. If you’d like to learn more about Kevin Connor and his work please join us at the gallery from 5:30pm on Thursday, October 18 for an evening with Hendrik Kolenberg who will discuss his long association and friendship with the artist.
CALLING ON ALL PORTRAIT MAKERS
Orange Regional Gallery education programs will focus on portraiture in coming months as we lead up to one of Australia’s most loved exhibitions—the Archibald Prize, which will tour to Orange from the Art Gallery of New South Wales in early 2019.
The gallery will also run its own version of the ‘Young Archie’, a portrait competition for young people aged between five and 18 years old.
Selected finalists from each age category will be showcased in an exhibition scheduled to run alongside the Archibald Prize from February 8, 2019. Applications open October 15.
Keen to get started? A free drop-in portrait-making session for families from 10am-3pm will be held on Thursday to guide children.
Orange Regional Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm daily. Contact: 6393 8136 for more information.
