The 17-year-old was sentenced in Orange Local Court as a child for the offences committed in Molong, between 1.40am and 1.50am on March 4.
The boy was driving a white Nissan Navara along Bank Street when he accelerated harshly, causing several burnouts, leading to police being called by witnesses.
The car was in the middle of the road with the teenager in the driver’s seat talking to someone in another car when police arrived. There were also a number of pedestrians in the area.
If your were over 18 you would go to jail. You are young, your prospects of rehabilitation must be good. Do it again and you will go in.
- Magistrate David Day
Police said there was a strong smell of burnt rubber and small pieces of rubber were stuck around the Nissan’s tyre guards.
The boy, who was the only person in the vehicle, was arrested after returning a positive breath test and was taken at Molong Police Station where he returned a reading of 0.207.
He told police he had been drinking at a party and a friend was supposed to drive but had been drinking, so he drove instead.

The teenager appeared in court before magistrate David Day without legal representation.
“It’s a spectacularly stupid activity you engaged in, the only thing that helps you is you pleaded guilty at an early opportunity,” Mr Day said.
“You require some form of custodial sentence but you are not suitable for community service because you are working full-time.
“If your were over 18 you would go to jail. You are young, your prospects of rehabilitation must be good. Do it again and you will go in.”
For high-range drink driving, the boy was sentenced to a 12-month suspended control order, which was equivalent to a suspended jail-sentence.
He was also convicted and fined $220 for driving unaccompanied and was given a 12-month probation order without conviction for driving with prolonged loss of traction.
