The complex sits on 74 hectares on the Mitchell Highway just east of the city.

Real estate agent Joe Gander of One Agency Orange said he could not disclose the price being sought by the owners.

However, he said it had already attracted interest from prospective buyers.

“We’ve had a fair of interest. Two have been from Sydney and one locally,” he said.

Mr Gander said he expected the business would be sold as an on-going concern by people interested in maintaining its operations.

“It will be business people who will buy it,” he said.

Mr Gander said the property was well-positioned being “right next to town.”

The complex includes an 18 hectare vineyard planted for several varieties including reisling, pinot and shiraz.

There is also a 42-room motel ranging from studio rooms to two bedroom apartments and spa villas with a balcony or outdoor courtyard.

The motel is next to a function centre, cellar door and restaurant which overlooks the vineyard.

Mr Gander said the property also had room for expansion.

“It’s got a DA approved for another 12 villas, a golf course and a chapel,” he said.

He said the Turner family had owned the property since about the 1990s.

The real estate listing for the property says such an expansion would create more flexibility for a new owner.

“This allows the possibility to develop Turners Vineyard into a resort to cater for weddings, a spa centre, larger conventions and return the vineyard into a fully operational business,” it said.

“With Orange becoming increasingly busy with events throughout the year, and often a shortage of accommodation, this is an opportunity to develop this property into a renowned resort.”

Other features of the property include having the corporate function facilities to cater for 10-80 people and restaurant seating for up to 380 people.

It also has two dams and town water and sewer.

Mr Gander said it was not unusual for vineyards to be sold around Orange.

He said he knew of at least two that had sold in the past two years, one on Cargo Road and one on Pinnacle Road. 

“That’s only the ones I know of, there would be more,” he said.

And last November Peter Darley sold one of the most historic apple orchards in the region, Daydawn, at Nashdale.

It is being converted into a flower farm by owner Chris May of Mayfarm Flowers.
