The organisation will have a display at Tuesday’s Stretch Your Dollar Day, which will help residents manage their finances more efficiently.

Orange City Council community development co-ordinator, and FoodCare committee member, Karen Boyd said the organisation had done a price comparison, with the groceries costing $150 at a supermarket and $50 from FoodCare. 

“That’s what people can save if they’re doing it tough,” she said.

“They can then put that money towards the phone bill.”

FoodCare provides both food people can buy, sourced by relief organisation Foodbank, and also food provided free by retailers and producers, which is still consumable but past its ‘best before’ date.

Financial counselling services, the Energy and Water Ombudsman NSW, Centrelink, Revenue NSW, TAFE NSW Orange and First Choice Orange will all be on hand on the day.

Advice will be available on how to reduce debt, spend less at the supermarket and deal with fines, with information sessions and confidential chats offered. 

The day will be held at the CWA Hall in Robertson Park from 10am-3pm.
