Eighteen-month-old Ransome The Opal, owned by Agnes Banks trainer Caroline Hughes, stormed home to an impressive 9.75 margin win at Kennerson Park on Monday afternoon, in the Duke’s Ladbrokes Preview Maiden.
Ransome The Opal, wearing the number six, jumped out of the box the best out of the five-dog field, was rarely challenged and raced home for a comfortable win.
Her trainer was delighted.
“It looked like a one-dog race from where I was standing,” she said.
“I was very happy with her run.”

It was just the dog’s third career win, after two starts in Richmond earlier this month.
Instead of racing again closer to home, Hughes brought her red fawn out to Bathurst for the first time.
“She’s only 18 months old at the moment but I’m really happy with her career so far,” she said.
“I’m just taking her along steadily, but I’m happy with how she’s going.
“We may bring her next week, because I like this track.”
Hughes said she’s a great dog to train.
“It’s really easy to do anything with her. I bred the litter and we’ve got the whole lot of them,” she said.
“They’ve been handled their whole lives. They’re just great.”
Boys Go Loco finished second, while the Earl Anderson-trained Ya Mum claimed third, for just the four-year-old black bitch’s fourth ever placing in 29 starts.
Project Monarch and Princess Mia finished fourth and fifth respectively.
