Orange Tigers defender Mick Evans is treasuring the Tigers’ Central West AFL premiership as much as anyone after not only his maiden flag in Aussie Rules, but his first grand final.
Evans has played in four preliminary finals in South Australian leagues, losing every single one of them.
Saturday marked Evans’ first grand final appearance, and also one of the “best games of footy I’ve been involved in”.

After the final siren sounded, Evans was one of the happiest blokes on the field, and the smile couldn’t be wiped off his face for the next three days during celebrations.
“It’s indescribable … to be the first flag I’ve ever played in and to win like that coming back, it’s pretty special,” he said.
Evans said he had nerves in the lead-up to the game, but had next to no nerves on gameday, and was hardly looking at the scoreboard in the final term as the Tigers made their charge.
I was a bit nervous Thursday and Friday, but getting up and catching the bus we had the faith in the 24 blokes in the side to get the job done, we just had to perform on the day.”
“It was about trying to lock it down in the forward 50 and my role was to patrol across that half back so the score and time didn’t come into it,” he said.
It’s just an incredible feeling, they’re the type of memories you cherish forever.
