More than 1000 homes were sold in Orange in the last financial year – which is more than any other area in the region.
Miss Mackie said they will take possession of the two-year-old, four-bedroom house in North Orange on September 28.
“We have been looking for about five months,” she said.
“We got to it before it had any advertising and our offer was accepted.”
She said they wanted to move into North Orange and wanted a house with a decent-sized backyard.
“Preferably yes, because my partner and I have lived in North Orange,” she said.
Property analysts CoreLogic’s Property Value data showed there were 1008 homes sold in Orange to the end of June – compared to 828 in Bathurst and its regional areas, 795 in Dubbo and 457 in the Mudgee and Midwestern council areas.
Orange property also had the highest median value at $394,000 compared to Bathurst $384,000, Dubbo $360,000 and Mudgee $392,000.
The value rose by a region-leading 9.44 per cent in the year up from $360,000 in July 2017.
The median rent charged in Orange was $350 per week compared to Bathurst $340, Dubbo $360 and Mudgee $370.
And the data showed that it took an average 76 days to sell a house in Orange compared to 89 in Bathurst, 79 in Dubbo and 94 in Mudgee.
One Agency Orange real estate licensee and Orange Business Chamber president Ash Brown said sales were strong in Orange.
“I’m not sure if it’s [1008 houses sold] a record, but it’s up there,” he said.
“We have had one of the best years in Orange for many years.
“We haven’t had the ripple of the Sydney market.”
Mr Brown said Orange house buyers were from several backgrounds.
“We are finding first home buyers have been definitely active, middle-aged professionals are common as are retirees moving here to be closer to the grandchildren and our good medical facilities,” he said.
“A lot of baby boomers are down-sizing.”
