The Planning Institute of Australia had its conference in Orange over three days and I had the honour of giving a keynote address on the history and development of Orange from Blackmans Swamp to Orange today as a major inland regional city with a mixed economy and further potential for sustainable development.

Many of the participants stayed over the weekend to further explore Orange and the district.
We also had a visit from 10 trade consultants from Saudi Arabia, Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Austria and New Zealand.
They were shown a number of Industries and all gathered at Racine to experience local food and wine.
I am sure the visit created a lot of interest and hopefully will result in business opportunities for Orange.
Master Builders’ Awards
I welcomed the Master Builders Association to Orange Friday evening. I believe total numbers were close to 300, and it was a fantastic evening and highlights the incredible talent we have in our region.
Orange companies took out a number of awards including Mick Banks, Tilstons, Elcon to name just a few.
Congratulations to all the tradesman and apprentices from Orange who made it such a showcase of what we have to offer.
I believe this was one of the first times the awards have been held in Orange and judging by the organisation and the venue, Orange Ex-Services’ Club, it will not be the last!
Tenpin bowling night
Saturday I was a guest at the Orange Tenpin Bowl where Joel Everett and his team put on a disabilities bowling night. I got off to a very poor start (two wides).
Many thanks for a great night and to the Belmonte family for hosting.
Ag Institute open day
This Saturday, at the Orange Agricultural Institute on Forest Road, an open day is being held.
This is a must for the community to see and experience the range of research programs completed in Orange which have Australian and world recognition.
A must for all is to see the incredible insect collection.
Rotary event on Friday
This Friday at the Function Centre there’s a Rotary concert featuring a number of choirs hosted by Marion Arnold.
Marion was born in Orange and attended Glenroi School and Orange High with me. She went onto an incredible career in the media, and her knowledge of music is incredible.
The Arnold family have been so important to folk learning music and bands over many, many years.
The concert is to raise funds for Guide Dogs.
A night at the museum
On October 12, the museum is holding a sleepover night and sounds exciting. It includes dinner, desert and breakfast.
For children aged between 6 and 10 years old it could be a great way for grandparents to have a fun night out!
I am sure a roll down the grassed roof before going home in the morning would be a must!
Welcome rain arrives
Orange has been lucky to receive some welcoming rain over the last few weeks and the Spring flush of grass, blossoms and of course daffodils is upon us.
A great time to visit Cook Park, Botanic Gardens and Robertson Park.
