Many people took to social media when they felt and heard the tremor and at 9.12pm the Seismology Research Centre confirmed the incident.

“Magnitude 2.5 earthquake near Blayney NSW about 10 minutes ago. Reported felt,” it posted to Twitter.

Jo Hill was among those who took to Facebook to share her experiences.

“Yes I did felt the bang and vibration at Blayney,” she said.

Keryl Bennett wrote: “I thought it was a truck coming through the house”.

Katrina Toshack posted: “My house shook, was very loud also”.

While Rod McClymont reported the tremor sounded like a loud explosion and it shook his house.

“Sound seemed to be coming from the east of us but hard to tell. We live about 3km east of Newbridge,” he said.

“It rumbled on for some seconds like thunder would but not quit the same sound.”

Robert Smit posted online: “A load thunder clap noise followed by a very long rumble that faded into the distance”.

While Kristy Kritt Ruming posted to Facebook that she heard the tremor from her home in Raglan in Bathurst.

“Didn’t feel a tremor though. I even went outside to have a look around,” she wrote.

“I knew I heard something out of the ordinary that wasn’t the usual neighbourhood noises. Now I know I wasn’t going mad after all.”

Emily Roberts Tori wrotes: “I thought there were massive trucks driving past mum and dads and disappearing into thin air. Why was that more plausible in my head than a fricking earthquake”.

The quake might have left some people concerned, but Kirk England saw the funny side and posted a meme (see below) to the Western Advocate’s Facebook page.
