A state government plan to ban fishing in 25 proposed marine parks on the coast has been opposed by the Member for Orange Phil Donato. The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party MP is urging people to sign a petition from his party to oppose the fishing ban. Mr Donato said while the ban would not affect fishing in his electorate there were many people from the Central West who fished while holidaying on the coast including areas between Newcastle and Wollongong where the bans were proposed. “What’s the problem with going fishing with your family?” he said. “Fishers I know are conscious of the rules regarding size limits and bag limits.” He said there were 850,000 licenced fishers in NSW who could be affected. Mr Donato said people could sign the petition at his office or online.
