The first round of our annual Club Championships was contested last Sunday, the men's and ladies’ singles, with results in both being momentous occasions.
Scott Osborne and Chrissie Kjoller were the overall winners, respectively, with the former’s a whopping 20th victory and the latter’s the first after many years supporting the event.
Scott’s history dates back to when he was runner-up to Ian Holmes in the singles at just 15. He won his first title the year after and lost the next to Nick Heron.
From then he’s won an incredible 18 titles in a row, is an ongoing member and a very keen supporter of the event despite living in Sydney.
Chrissie’s also supported the club throughout her life, playing in her first junior competition at 12. She joined as a member at 18 and eventually went on to partner her mum, Dolly, in her first championship and then later with her father, Max, in the mixed doubles.
She’s won plenty of events but never the singles, before this year.

In the final, Scott def Chris 3-6, 2-0 after Chris retired unwell.
In the men’s consolation round Zac Osborne-Gillette def Brad Penrose 6-3, 6-3; Daniel Kozul def Col Parsons 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In the semi-finals Zac def Roy 6-2, 7-6 and Daniel def Ningshong 6-3, 6-2. Then Daniel went on to defeat Zac in the final 6-0, 6-1.
In the lead up to the ladies’ final Chrissie Kjoller def Julia Learson 6-0, 6-1; Sue Vaughan def Elizabeth Grady 6-2, 6-2.
In the final Chrissie def Sue 6-4, 6-2 and the winner of the consolation round was Elizabeth with a win over Julia nine games to one.
This Sunday, the second event of the Championships will be held, the men’s and ladies doubles.
Players needed for a 10am start are Julia Learson, Sue Vaughan, Janet Davenport, Lindy Crossley, Roy Roweth, Brad Penrose, Brett Campbell, Daniel Kozul, Sam Radojicic, Josh Ristvej, Ningshong Cai, Rod Buesnel, Col Parsons, Graham Hayne, Scott Osborne and Zac Osborne-Gillette.
Players needed for an 11.30am start are Gordon Dunlop, Alan Hubbard, Chrissie Kjoller and Meagan Fitzgerald.
There is only one week to go for our much anticipated Seniors Tournament, which is being held on September 15 and 16.
It is not too late to enter, providing you are 35 years or over, with entries closing next Thursday.
