Mariners went down 3-1 after conceding a late own goal.
Captain Adam Scimone said the opposition, who finished just one place ahead of them on the ladder, scored at the 30-minute mark from a free kick that was caught but spilled by the goalkeeper.
“They scored their second not long after off a set-piece play,” he said.
About 15 minutes into the second half the Mariners’ hopes rose when Kenny McCall netted a penalty to bring the score back to 2-1.
However the later own goal sealed the game for Stanmore.
Scimone said the side needed to work on its fitness for next year as they had suffered several second-half fade-outs this year.
Mariners finished 13th with three wins.
