IT was good to see an Orange City Council parking officer on Hill Street near Catherine McAuley Catholic Primary School on Friday reminding some drivers that a no-stopping zone is just that.

It’s not a place to let children out or pick them up – these areas are for the safety of all children and traffic movement.
We cannot expect the police or the parking officer to patrol all of the city’s school crossings every day, so it is up to the drivers and parents to take responsibility and obey the rules.
I might add also that drivers are required to stop at lines provided on the the approach to the crossing and wait for the crossing supervisor to leave the crossing before moving on.
