Incumbent deputy Joanne McRae has said she would allow herself to be nominated for the position, but at this stage none of the remaining 10 possible candidates have indicated if they would do likewise.

Mayor Reg Kidd is the only councillor of the 12 who is ineligible, with his position at the head of the chamber secured until the next council election.

Nominations for the deputy's position have to be submitted in writing by at least two councillors, one of whom can be the nominee, who must then consent to having his or her name on the ballot.

If there is only one nomination that person will be automatically elected to the position at the meeting.

If there is multiple candidates councillors will choose the election method – preferential ballot, ordinary ballot or open voting – before casting their votes and electing a winner.
