With Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to hold a party room meeting on Friday where his fate as leader would be decided, Mr Medcalf said talk of yet another federal leadership spill was not good for the country.
“I think people are just fed up, especially with the politics that’s going on with it,” he said.
“We’re having a catastrophic drought in the eastern states and they’re [the community] looking at the government to stimulate the economy and keep the country going and with all this people are now scratching their heads.”
Mr Medcalf claimed business confidence had also dropped due to the instability of Australia’s leadership.
The leadership debate was having a more direct impact on the operations of CENTROC on Thursday, with the organisation’s board at Parliament House in Canberra for a series of meetings.
Mr Medcalf said the fallout from the leadership conjecture had caused the group to be shuffled from room to room, and planned meetings with ministers did not eventuate.
Mr Medcalf claimed business confidence had also dropped due to the instability of Australia’s leadership.
“That’s a very, very big issue and it’s not going to help one iota,” he said.
Mr Medcalf argued it was fair that political parties change leadership, however, he did not support the way it had occurred during the past decade within Labor and the Coalition.
“They [politicians] should be doing it with manners,” he said.
Mr Medcalf said with the “federal government not operating properly” it would damage Australia’s reputation on a global level.
