WHILE fuel is cheaper in Orange than in most other Central West centres, a report from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) released this week revealed that petrol prices are at a four-year high.

Peter Khoury, a NRMA spokesperson, said motorists have really felt the pressure at the bowser.
“Nationally, [prices are] not good and they haven’t been good for 2018,” he said.
“The last quarterly report that’s come from the ACCC [on Tuesday] demonstrated that, with prices now at a four-year high. It’s not been a good story this year.”

The average price of unleaded petrol in Orange on Wednesday was 145.3 cents per litre, in Parkes it was 151, Dubbo was 152 and Forbes was 154.5.
The average price in Bathurst for unleaded was 144.9 cents per litre.
“Most of regional NSW now is over $1.50,” Mr Khoury said.
Mr Khoury said the NRMA was hoping to see some respite for motorists during 2018, but it has yet to come.
He said the prices have been driven up by world oil prices and the falling Australian dollar, meanwhile profit margins in Australia have risen to 12.8 cents per litre.
“The profit margins the oil companies are helping themselves to are quite high; we’d like to see that come in a bit,” Mr Khoury said.
People trying to save money at the bowser should be looking closer to home for solutions, Mr Khoury said.
Motorists are encouraged to take advantage of the NRMA’s app to track prices and make sure they are fueling up where it’s cheapest.
