THE NSW Environmental Protection Authority announced on Wednesday the RVM would be set up outside Flip Out in Edward Street by the end of the month.
An EPA spokeswoman said the response to Return and Earn in Orange had been enthusiastic.
“To help even more people participate in the scheme, a second reverse vending machine is planned,” she said.
Councillor Jason Hamling, who had been applying pressure for a second machine, said it was a good result and the effort had paid off.
“It’s across the other side of Orange, which people can access and it will encourage children to do some recycling as well,” he said.
“We’re the same size as Bathurst and Dubbo – if they want us to recycle, they have to give us the means.”
The announcement followed Tuesday’s revelations Orange registered half Dubbo’s container count when Dubbo had two machines.
Readers took to social media, complaining there were often long queues in the North Orange Shopping Centre car park to use the city’s existing sole RVM.
Cin Culverson said most people did not realise they could use the myTOMRA app to find out when the machine was out of order.
Angie Caffin said Orange had a population of 40,000, while Young had 8000.
The EPA spokeswoman said RVMs alerted the network operator when they were filling up.
“Emptying of the Orange reverse vending machine has recently been increased to four times a day to ensure that community access is maintained,” she said.
She said people could also check return point’s status on the Return and Earn website before leaving home.
Member for Orange Phil Donato, who has also been agitating for a second RVM for some time, said he submitted a question to the government a week ago.
“It’s clearly a timing thing, it’s not just a coincidence,” he said.
“It’s great that we’re getting another one.”
