The students were awarded $30 for coming second in verse-speaking, which they decided to give to Buy A Bale.
Student Sylvie Prusiak said she thinks Calare Public School beat them by half a point because they were dressed very smart.

“I think it was because they had ties on,” said Sylvie.
Classmate Audrey Whiting said they decided to donate their money because the farmers needed it.
“We all need to eat and the farmers need money so they can grow their crops and look after their families,” she said.
The students generosity was matched when an anonymous donor left an envelope for the class which contained $50 and a letter.
“We wanted you to know that no good gift, or thing ever goes unnoticed or unappreciated,” reads the note.
“We pray that it will be an enormous blessing to those farmers who really need your help and our help as well.”
The letter says the students are free to do with the $50 what they like, but suggests “if $30 of it also went to Buy A Bale to match your $30, we would very much love that.”
Teacher Tracey Press said her class made a unanimous decision to add the $30 to the donation tally.
“What a lovely group of kids that think of others before they think of themselves,” she said.
