This is a busy pedestrian area of our city and except for the attractive mature trees and the two Crepe Myrtles (that present a great show when in bloom) is presented in a very poor light.

In fact it is disgusting, particularly around the pedestrian crossing where recently I have observed the following items that need urgent attention: the old-style street lamp right at the crossing is not working, and the main adjacent streetlight next to Woolworths is also not working.

These contribute to a reduction in visibility at the crossing, causing a safety issue, and need urgent attention.

Surely council regularly checks street lights in commercial and retail areas for those needing attention?

Aesthetically, the non-existent gardens at this crossing are just bare earth along with some discarded safety barrier webbing tape and posts that have been lying there for months.

Come on, council: we are trying to attract people to Orange to visit and shop, so can you get busy and pretty up this street with displays of flowers or suitable shrubs or maybe bulbs?

Perhaps our mayor could help, or our city’s presentation manager could phone up the Reg Kidd garden show on ABC radio of a Saturday morning and get some advice, or then again just ask our mayor.

Those responsible should pull their socks up or let someone else have a go, as almost anything would be an improvement on the status quo presentation that is an absolute disgrace.

Other areas besides the civic centre need to be kept in immaculate condition, please, as it is important to give our retailers all the help we can.
