While the weather was slightly different to Indonesia’s climate, it didn’t stop the celebrations, with people feasting on bakso, nasi goreng and plenty more Indonesian treats.
Some 50 members of Orange’s Indonesian community had gathered on Saturday to celebrate Indonesia’s independence, which occurred on Friday, with a mix of English and Indonesian both being heard between children playing.
Mrs Howe is hoping next year they might be able to work with Orange Culture Hub to throw a public celebration of Indonesian community, culture and – of course – food.
This was the fifth year they had celebrated independence day, but one of the organisers Eka Palmer often they will gather every few months to get together and mingle.
“It’s really nice for us in Orange to get together but also people outside of Orange who come and be together with us,” she said.
