The bridge over Hillans Creek on the Eurimbla Road was officially opened by Cabonne mayor Kevin Beatty after being constructed by the council entirely from its own funds.

It replaces a narrow concrete bridge built in 1928 – one that had well and truly seen its day after almost a century of service.

Council spent just over $720,000 on the new bridge and a further $431,000 building the road approaches.

“The well-being of drivers travelling on roads within Cabonne is paramount for our council and the safety of people using Eurimbla Road will be greatly improved by this new bridge,” Cr Beatty said.

“What is more significant is that this new structure has been funded entirely by Cabonne Council and that’s something we’re extremely proud of.”

Cr Beatty said the project began after council was approached by members of the Cumnock community to improve and widen the old bridge.

“One of the things Cabonne prides itself on is our capacity to work with our communities,” he said.

“Events like this bridge opening today demonstrate that this is more than just Council’s motto.

“Hopefully this bridge will stand proudly for at least another 90 years as a concrete reminder of the long-standing partnership Cabonne Council has enjoyed with the Cumnock community.”
