AFTER four years of negotiations, Canobolas Scout Camp has been signed over to Orange City Council in the hope to boost the supply of cheap accommodation.
Councillor Russell Turner was part of negotiations and said it had been a long process, first obtaining Golden West Region Scouts’ approval, then Scouts Australia and Cabonne Council because the camp is located outside the Orange LGA.
“The scouting association isn’t in a financial position to upgrade the facilities and accommodation – the kitchens and toilets are all very outdated,” he said.

Cr Turner stressed scouting groups would still have access to the camp for their activities and the next step involved securing grant funding to start upgrades.
The scout camp is located on public land, but Scouts Australia has had control since 1964.
It features dormitory-style accommodation, a flying fox, rock climbing, rope courses and orienteering.
it is expected to cater for seasonal pickers and MTB riders if Mount Canobolas is developed.
