Man dies in hospital following two-car collision at Cargo Road

A man has died following a two-vehicle crash near Orange this morning.

Police were called to the intersection of Lake Canobolas Road and Cargo Road about 9.15am following reports a Hyundai Elantra and Ford Everest had collided.

The 64-year-old male driver was turning right from Mount Canobolas Road onto Cargo Road when he collided with the westbound vehicle. 

The male driver of the Hyundai was trapped in the vehicle for a short period of time before being freed by emergency services.

He was taken to Orange hospital, but died before he arrived. 

The 40-year-old female driver of the Everest was not injured during the incident. She returned a negative result to roadside breath test.

Officers from Central West Police District established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner.
