The leading cardiologist, who is also executive director of Sydney Health Partners, said the two-day conference was an opportunity for innovators to network.
“What we are all working towards is translating research data into outcomes that will help improve the health of our communities,” he said.
He saw cardiovascular health and mental health as key areas, as well as improving treatment outcomes in rural and remote areas by conferencing treatment options.
“It’s best practice, if you have to have a stent put in, to go to a cath lab – that’s fine in a major centre but not if you’re 300 kilometres away,” he said.
Prof Jennings said the federal government’s research fund had opened opportunities for further work.
NSW Minister for Health and Medical Research Brad Hazzard and SAX Institute CEO Professor Sally Redman will join Prof Jennings in speakers’ line-up, which will also include specialists in rural and remote health and Aboriginal health and wellbeing.
The theme will be celebrating research partnerships in the bush.
The first day of the conference will be hosted at the University of Sydney’s School of Rural Health in Orange, followed by a day at Charles Sturt University.
Practitioners are encouraged to attend, but both days will be live-streamed.
