I refer to the Central Western Daily letter to the editor dated August 3, 2018, in which Mr Ray Moffat persists in misleading your readers.

His statements that, and I quote, “yet for years full use of the Lake (Canobolas) by all citizens was limited by members of the trout fishing clique, and if you didn’t belong you could not fish at the lake” are both untrue.
While reference to clique is somewhat nondescript as to just who he is referring to, there has never been, since the Lake was first stocked with trout by Fisheries in the early 30s, any restriction other than that imposed by the States Fisheries Department, namely that fishers hold and adhere to a NSW fishing licence.
Further he states that other water activities such as sailing could not be undertaken because of the trout stocking.
Again this not the case and never has been.
The Orange City Council, not the trout clique, whoever they might be, throughout has been the authority to control the recreational use of Lake Canobolas.
Non-powered boating has been allowed by our Council to this day.
I am pleased to inform Mr Moffat that the Orange Trout Acclimatisation Society, if that is the clique he refers to, remains an active responsible group of anglers supported by DPI’s Fisheries Department, and has been in existence since 1932.
Surely such misrepresentation merely undermines the argument put forward that Mt Canobolas and mountain biking is not a good fit?
A more constructive approach is that put forwarded by Peter West namely that the proposal for a mountain bike trail be developed through the pine plantations to avoid all the environmental concerns.
