PLANT NERD: Better Homes and Gardens garden designer Grahame Rowe will run an indoor plant workshop at Botanica Flora.

Better Homes and Gardens’ Grahame Rowe says there is something nostalgic about indoor plants.

“A lot of us grew up with a few plants inside and they’re reminiscent of mum and dad’s house,” he said.

While a greenery affection may have grown from childhood, Mr Rowe said there are a lot more plants available today than most people’s parents had access to.

“More people have plants inside – it takes the mystery out of gardening,” he said.

Alongside his wife Kim, the TV garden designer’s new passion project will see the duo visit Orange on Saturday to teach an indoor plant workshop at Botanica Flora.

The self confessed plant nerd said his goal for the two hour session is to "feed the fire” plant lovers already possess.

“I want to get more people onboard to create their own indoor garden, how to pick the right spot, how to get their plants to flourish and any troubleshooting issues,” he said.

Heralding from Woonona, just north of Wollongong, Mr Rowe said his garden was created to reflect his environment, which with high humidity in summer but a cool ocean breeze, means the Victorian style gardens he loves don’t work.

His advice for Orange locals trying to decide from the plethora of planting options is; “choose stuff that wants to be here.”

Prior to the workshop at 230pm, the Rowe’s will have a bunch of potted plants for sale at Botanica.
