STEM Program and Centre Director, Matt Scott, recently participated in a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Shuttle mission as a flight engineer aboard the International Space Station (ISS). His roles included conducting medical checks, assembling a radio antenna while wearing a space suit and being harnessed into to simulated manned-manoeuvring suit, or rocket pack, which was able to move through five axis. Matt also had to correct errors with the oxygen and carbon dioxide systems on the ISS, and said collaboration, communication and problem solving were essential to the overall success of the mission.
