Principal Glen Bourke said some of the school’s students have family connections to the land or have lived on farms so they are aware of struggles farmers are having feeding stock and looking after themselves, their properties and families.
He said to raise money to help, students will have an out-of-uniform day on Friday and will give a donation for wearing the clothes of their choice.
He said they will also raise money through cupcake sales but he’s already had to put a cap on the number of cupcake makers due to an overwhelming response.
“We are extending to non-perishable items because there’s so many cupcakes,” Mr Bourke said.
He’s also encouraging anyone in Orange who wants to contribute to drop of non-perishable items at the school’s office this week.
“We will talk to local charity organisations who will distribute the items,” Mr Bourke said.
Mr Bourke said the school is seeking another reputable agency to donate the funds for so it can go towards livestock feed.
Mr Bourke said he hopes the school can raise $1000 to help the farmers.
