This week Orange City’s Rickards Whiteley under 7s travelled to Forbes.
In the first game we took on Bathurst Bulldogs.
Lily was outstanding in all aspects of play. Tobie H showed soft hands to take an amazing catch and march through the defence.
Rhyan and Lewis showed some great skill both sneaking through the line on several occasions.
In game two we were up against Cowra.
Cambell made immediate impact bending the line at each run. George found his running game and made some neat breaks. Troy was forever probing the line for holes while Jess was skirting the flanks and crossing the stripe.
In game three we faced the Emus. Lincoln and Toby B made their mark taking the ball forward and made many meters.
Duncan had a feast scoring an amazing four meat pies.
Well done again for great sportsmanship by all throughout the day.

UNDER 9s
The Lions’ Westruss under 9s traveled to Forbes with a full strength side after our mid-season tour to support the NSW Waratahs.
With a defensive game plan devised by super-coaches Hamling and Scoins, game one was against Kinross where the Curran boys, Connor and Jack tackled everything that moved while the scheming halves of Morti Hamling and Emerson Page set the backline alight with two tries to Oliver Philpott, Archie Buesnel and Cooper Honeysett.
The second half onslaught continued with tries to Harry Miller, Jack Curran and Emerson Page as Orange City ran out convincing winners 9-2.
Game two was against a well-drilled Dubbo outfit that required the young Lions to show commitment to our defensive structures.
With perfect line running from Caleb Anthony and Ollie Scoins the boys ran in tries to Archie Adamson and Harry Miller to set up an exciting finish.
Dubbo hit back with some dazzling running rugby but with Archie Buesnel and Jack Curran marching up field the young Lions were threatening to score the match-winner.
Unfortunately, time ran out with Dubbo victorious 3-2 in a tightly contested affair.
The final game was against our old rivals Orange Emus where our super-coaches made some attacking changes moving the defensive superpowers of Honeysett and Miller closer to the action.
With Orange City dominating the ruck through Archie Buesnel and Jack Curran, the outside backs of Ollie Scoins, Connor Curran and Caleb Anthony created havoc for the Emus’ defense.
With time running out, the combination of Hamling and Page swung into gear setting up tries to Oliver Philpott and Cooper Honeysett to seal the 4-1 win.
A big thank you to the parents for their continued support of our kids in their endeavours to be better players and respectful kids in general.

The PJL Orange City Lions travelled to Forbes for round eight of the 2018 Wallas season.
The Lions arrived feeling fresh after a well-deserved three week break over the school holidays.
In game one we took on our old cross-town rivals Emus Green.
Emus flew out of the blocks and had scored two tries at the break. Mitch Duncan picked up where he left off before the holiday break, showing consistent determination in attack. Jackson Davis made much needed metres to get out of try scoring territory.
City were held in their 22 for much of the second half but defended superbly to only concede one try.
Bryn Whittaker held the upper hand over the opposition’s halfback winning much need possession at the breakdown.
City’s little men – the likes of Leo Vaughan and Noah Warren played smart footy to not get caught defending bigger opponents.
Dylan Jones led his team with strong attack, being unlucky not to come away with a try for his efforts. Final score of the game was 3-nil to Emus Green.
In game two Orange City faced Wellington Redbacks/Dubbo Rhinos combined team.
Levi Cheney made crucial metres straight up the middle.
Oliver Schofield was in the right place at the right time, often getting to the breakdown first.
Edward Ashton’s speed proved once again dangerous when he was given space to move. The half time chat spurred City out of the huddle with increased determination.
Archer Murphy once again played a vital supporting role on the wing. Charlie Miller and Max Plokstys’ bruising tackles during the whole game proved the difference at the final whistle in a tightly fought contest. Orange City came away with the win 2-1.
In game three Orange City were up against tough competitors Millthorpe Mozzies.
Heath Vaughan provided first-rate support to Oscar Cawse’s metre making runs.
Oscar Cheney once again made plenty of metres with his straight up the middle runs. Henry Heath and James Ashton didn’t get much opportunity to dazzle in attack; but both proved they had a formidable defensive game.
Georgia Miller’s lightning speed left her opponents wondering where on Earth she came from.
Mozzies were eventual winners five tries to two.

It was an early start this week for The Broadley & Haydon under-13 Lions, with a road trip to to face Mudgee Blue.
Our team of 15 Lions put in a gallant effort against 30 Wombats, the final score not reflective of their play on the day.
The first half was tough for the Lions, and, although they remained scoreless, they played great rugby.
Alexa McKinnon-Braid was not afraid to get involved in the ruck, targeting her opponent to clear out.
Alex O’Brien, Jack Petty and Jack Glynn lined up the biggest Wombats to tackle, attacking them down low.
Hamish Ingham and Lily Bone made several good breaks, both stopped just short of the try-line.
The Lions rallied for the second half, Jasmine Anthony was on the attack from the outset with Luke McKinnon-Braid tenacious in his favourite position of breakaway and the smiling assassin, Edward Southwell, was solid on the right wing.
Temana Te Rupe made a great break, passing the ball to Andrew Ingham who gained ground to hand the ball to Oliver Livingstone, who left the Wombats defence standing still, flying over the line with enough time to swing around to land the ball under the posts.
Temana then converted the try with ease.
Quick passes down the line from Tallis Thomas and Jake Philpott saw the ball through to Patrick Haydon, who fended off seemingly countless Wombats, ploughing through the defence for the second Lions try.
Final result 59-12 to the Wombats, with the referee commending the Lions after the match for their tackling skills and the two runaway tries, and on the manner in which they conducted themselves on the paddock.

CYMS GOLD
After a three-week holiday CYMS Golds’ stars were eager to take the field against Waratahs Wanderers.
The first half was spent mainly in defence as the Wanderers proved to be quite strong and quick in attack, leading the game.
Not wanting to give up CYMS fought hard in the second half and really came together with some great passes and a stronger defence to even out the match.
Our player of the week Oliver Miller made an amazing run up the field after a strong tackle to score a goal in the last minutes of the game, although we played an amazing game it wasn't enough for the win as the Wanderers maintained their lead from the first half of the match.
I'm so proud of how the boys stayed strong and displayed a never give up attitude, and continued to enjoy the game and not loose their smiles even in the midst of defeat.
