Following on from Dr Abraham Maslow’s basic needs research, which states we all need food, shelter, warmth, etc, it’s obvious that most who are desperate to keep warm will do anything to keep warm.

So, is there room for councillor Glenn Taylor’s idea of supplying wood for the needy of Orange? Me thinks so.
And creatively, as at the same time there’s also a business-risk-minimisation opportunity for council to clean up one of its long-standing issues – its trees?
Former mayor John Davis has previously stated council knows it has a problem with its trees.
Implement a program of reduce or tidy the trees in council’s precinct back to a proportion that suits the particular streetscape. And the ensuing wood can become part of our wood stockpile for the needy.
So here’s the chance – implement a program of reduce or tidy the trees in council’s precinct back to a proportion that suits the particular streetscape. And the ensuing wood can become part of our wood stockpile for the needy.
Near to my home there is a council tree which has dropped overhanging branches and damaged the balcony of a residential property.
I recall council staff trimming lower, substantially-sized branches from the said tree, after the said balcony was damaged.
The rest of the liquid ambers in Campdale Place need a trim, too, before more damage is done.
POLL: Have your say …
Others may have had the same experience. You ring for help and a well-meaning council staffer attends and gives the tree in question a ‘healthy’ rating, but nothing eventuates regarding lessening the risk of overhanging, dangerous branches.
As previously heard on ABC’s Saturday morning gardening program, our current mayor knows of the tree risks we can have.
So how about it, council? Loan me a chainsaw and I’ll help.

P.S. Should the wood pile get too big, to help with our tourism drive we could have a regular, winter Woodstock-like bonfire. It’d bring back the 60s-70s and possibly be a drawcard for the grey nomads. Hang on … we need somewhere for them to park.
