Director Catherine Litchfield said the young cast of mainly year 9 and year 7 students had sold out the matinee and most evening sessions with tickets still available for Friday night’s performance at the Orange Civic Theatre.
She said the students were excited to be performing the work.
“It’s fun and they all grew up with High School Musical and they all know the songs,” she said.
Mrs Litchfield said the ages of the cast varied from year to year with this year a predominantly younger cast.
She said in last year’s school musical there were about 25 students from year 11 but this year there were only six.
The performance is the musical version of High School Musical which followed the movie version.
“They are very different,” she said.
“The stage show has a lot of music, with big numbers.”
Mrs Litchfield said the first performance was a matinee on Thursday at 10am followed by an evening performance at 7.30pm.
The times are repeated on Friday with an evening performance at 7.30pm on Saturday to round out the season.
