Two first-half tries to Cowra centre, and former Orange Emus gun, Elliot Brice sparked the Eagles’ comfortable 44-7 victory over Orange City Lions on Saturday, an important one in the context of the side’s season.

The victory pushes the Eagles back into the top four, but their fate is still very much in the balance.
They’ll head to Forbes’ Grinsted Oval for the last remaining regular season game needing a victory to guarantee a top four berth, that could potentially secure hosting rights for the minor semi-final as well.
A loss to the third-placed Platypi could spell the end of their campaign though, if Dubbo Kangaroos happen to upset Orange Emus at No.1 Oval too.
Brice’s brace were two of four unanswered tries the Eagles laid on in the opening half on Saturday afternoon to lead 22-nil at the break, and a further four five-pointer to the Lions’ one sealed the 37-point win.
“Forbes winning makes it a bit more difficult to get a (home) semi-final now. But we’ll get back to training this week and focus on what we need to,” Miller said.
“We weren’t really tested [on Saturday]. That one try they scored was pretty sloppy from us but it was a good performance.”
Tim Berry opened the scoring in the opening five minutes before Brice went over back-to-back in the 19th and 29th minutes.
The lead was extended to 22-nil when Bill Cummins sliced through City’s line in the closing stages of the first half.
Enjoying the majority of possession, the Eagles continued to pile on the points from the restart with tries to youngsters Coopers Sullivan and Ellis Hawker, and Owen Linnell and Jacob McNaught.
Orange City scored a late consolation in the 72nd minute to get on the board.
Having to defend for large periods of the game, Lions skipper Josh Tremain heaped praise on his troops for their effort, particularly because a number of players were backing up from full games in second grade too.
“That was real footy. Our defence was great. That’s one of our best performances in recent weeks, I couldn’t be prouder of the boys,” Tremain said.
