As we reach the halfway point of the school holidays, it’s clear Orange’s youngsters and families have been making the most of the break.
The above photo gallery is full of lovely snaps from the various activities and venues around town offering fun and games, from a morning at the movies to learning how to make your own damper.
And there’s lots of planned activities in store in the next seven days as well, so if you’re looking ahead and wondering what to do with your holidaying kids, the list below should be able to help you out.
FUN AND GAMES: WHAT SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ACTIVITIES ARE AVAILABLE
- PCYC HOLIDAY PROGRAM: 8.30am-5.30pm, Monday, July 16 to Friday, July 20. A variety of supervised activities including gymnastics, ninja warrior-style course, fort building, sports, movies, dancing and gymnastics. For children in kindergarten to year 6. Located at PCYC Orange in Seymour Street. Cost is $40 per day, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea is not supplied. Bookings essential. - DO-IT-YOURSELF SAND TIMER: 10am-12pm, Monday, July 16. Children will plan, ‘paint’ and assemble their own working sand-timers. For children aged eight and over, children aged six and seven must be accompanied by an adult. Located in the east room next door to Orange Regional Gallery. Cost is $15. - BUGS IN THE GARDEN: Tuesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 19. Horticulturalist Phil will be showing children around the gardens at The Greenhouse, introducing them to the good and bad bugs, as well as harvesting seeds, doing bug-inspired craft and preparing their own fruit with a chef. - BOARD GAME DAYS: 9am-3pm, Wednesday, July 18. Roving librarians will help people with board games. For children of all ages. Located at Orange City Library. No bookings required
- WINTER SUN-CATCHERS: 10am-12pm, Tuesday, July 17. Using simple folding techniques children will plan and make a beautiful waxed-paper sun catcher for their window. For children aged eight or older, children aged six and seven must be accompanied by an adult. Located in the east room next door to Orange Regional Gallery. Cost is $15. - VIRTUAL REALITY COMPETITIONS: Friday, July 20. Groups will take over the dance floor, feel FIFA World Cup fever, or break out the battle axe in simulated games. It is a free activity, but places are limited. For more information head to www.thegreenhouseoforange.com.au/whats-on
- ARTOOLS: 10am-1pm, Friday, July 20. Children will spend the morning designing and making their own set of sculptural mark-making tools before creating several works on paper. - SCULPTURAL ASSEMBLAGE: 10am-12pm, Thursday, July 19. Artist Jaq Davies will lead a sculpture workshop using a range of weird and wonderful materials. For children aged eight and over.
