IDEAL LOCATION: DPI STAFF MOVING TO FORMER ORANGE BASE HOSPITAL SITE
The Department of Primary Industries’ new home will be the old Orange Base Hospital site in Prince Street. A three-storey office block with a 390-site car park will be built on the site, with work to start early next year.
“Definitely not enough parking spaces considering TAFE will be across the road, as well as specialists/doctors and small businesses in the area. They say that the new building will take up the eastern side of the block. Maybe they should consider using the whole block and create more parking? It’s one of the main problems faced at our current building” – Amanda Wright

“There’s no condoning the actions of these irresponsible people, but if there were sensible arrangements that allowed residents to go into NSW National Parks and take away wood from the ground – which needs to be cleared anyway – there would be fewer instances of illegal activities like this” – Walter Tobin

BAGGING IT OUT: SHOPPERS NOT CONVINCED BY SUPERMARKETS’ PLASTIC BAG POLICY
“Annoying”, “hypocritical”, “a money-making decision” – Orange shoppers have reacted angrily to the cessation of free single-use plastic bags in the city’s major supermarkets, with many labeling the policy nothing more than a money-grab by retail giants.
“The main goal of this is to lessen the amount of plastic bags. These bags end up in landfill and oceans, and overall pollute the earth. All these giant supermarkets are businesses at the end of the day – their main goal is to make profits and gain revenue. They saw a business opportunity which allowed them to be more environmentally friendly and to make more profits” – Victoria Fabian
