The United Protestant Association (UPA) of NSW has applied to Orange City Council for the redevelopment of its Astill Court complex in Autumn Street.
“The proposal involves demolition of 15 existing self-contained dwellings, the removal of three trees and other vegetation, and the construction of eight single-storey self-contained dwellings,” the development application (DA) states.
The new units would be for seniors or people with a disability.
“Over recent years UPA have progressively redeveloped the village in stages,” it said.
This would be stage five of the development.
“Due to the ongoing demand for independent living accommodation for seniors UPA proposes to redevelop the centre area of the site to replace older units which do [not] meet current standards and requirements,” it said.
The eight new units would be of similar design to the existing 26 units on site.
The DA said it would not affect the aesthetics of the neighbourhood.
“The new units are infill developments in the centre of the site and they have nil effect on the existing streetscapes of Nile Street and Autumn Street,” it said.
Each two-bedroom will have its own private garage and outdoor courtyard.
“There is sufficient separation between individual units within the site and the neighbouring properties to ensure privacy and clear access to living areas,” it said.
The DA is currently on display at the council offices until 5pm on Friday, July 27.
Submissions about the DA must be received by council by that time.
NEW FACILITIES SLATED FOR PEISLEY STREET MOSQUE
THE Regional NSW Islamic Centre is seeking to add to the facilities at its mosque in Peisley Street.
A development application (DA) submitted to Orange City Council proposes several changes.
It said the proposal seeks a “more enriched use” for the site.
The work would include additional toilets, wash room facilities and changes to the kitchen.
There would be additional facilities for prayers.
Part of a hall area would also divided by partition walls into meeting rooms and a counsellor room.
