Maintaining that kind of polish in front of goal.
CYMS have stamped their authority on this year’s women’s Premier League Hockey title race and the side now sits on top of the ladder thanks to last week’s win but, even so, coach Pete Shea’s made no secret of the fact his troops have lacked the finishing touch quite a bit this year.
Rectifying that once is a step forward, but the prospect of facing a CYMS side that finishes consistently in the back of the season would surely send shivers down their rivals’ spines.
They’ll look to continue improving that facet in Saturday’s Bathurst gala day clash against Lithgow Panthers, a side they beat 4-nil in round one but also an outfit well and truly in the minor premiership hunt.
CYMS heads a three-way battle for first with Bathurst St Pat’s and Bathurst City, moving ahead thanks to goal difference, while Panthers trail the trio by just two points in fourth.
The Lithgow side, last year’s runner-up, heads into the clash after a gritty, 1-all draw with Confederates, the same result CYMS managed against their Orange rivals.
Saturday’s blockbuster first-versus-fourth showdown is the first of the afternoon, from 12.20pm.
