Member for Calare Andrew Gee on Thursday announced the Federal government was funding a portion of the upgrade to the tune of $1.9 million.

“This is a fantastic outcome for the Blayney community, with the project receiving $1.9 million to upgrade the facility ensuring it meets the needs of the community into the future,” he said.

The rejuvenation of the centre is such a large project that it will require the centre to be closed for up to six months.

Mr Gee said that the the upgrades will include the installation of a new interactive playground, a new disabled access ramp to the learn to swim pool and a modernisation of the plant and equipment.

“The funding will also be used to modernise the water filtration and heating infrastructure, the construction of a new modern plant room and new piping infrastructure into the pools,” he said. 

Blayney mayor Scott Ferguson said that the centre was experiencing substantial growth at the moment and the upgrades would bring the centre into the 21^st century.

“Council is excited about creating a better pool facility at CentrePoint as these improvements will compliment other recent upgrades to the complex including a larger gym area, new fitness equipment, solar panels and the new air heating system that’s currently under construction,” he said.

The total cost of the project will be $3.89 million, with Blayney council currently looking at the most effective options in raising the remaining $1.9 million of those funds.
