The 8.87 hectare land on Shiralee and Rifle Range roads south of Orange is the subject of a development application (DA) by the applicant Landorange Partnership currently on display at council.
“The residential lots will range in area between 310 square metres and 2714 square metres,” it said.
“The development proposal provides lots with an average size of approximately 660 square metres which is suitable for residential purposes.
“Rifle Range Road and Shiralee Road will be upgraded at the frontage of the lots.
“Four new roads will be constructed to service the proposed lots.”
It is proposed the development would be undertaken in five stages with the first involving 39 houses.
“The proposed staging and lot numbers are dependent on the future funding being made available by council towards Shiralee Road upgrading and residential land demand,” it said.
The DA is also seeking to demolish two existing houses and outbuildings on the land.
It said a hut appeared to have been used by pickers when the land was used as an orchard.
“The pickers’ hut appears to be of asbestos-containing-material construction,” it said.
The area was zoned for urban residential development in 2015.
Work is well underway for another Shiralee housing development around the corner.
Submissions on the DA close on Friday July 13.
SERVICE STATION UPGRADE
The BP service station in Summer Street is to receive a major upgrade including the installation of two large underground fuel tanks and altering the building’s facade.
A DA before Orange City Council said work would involve removing existing tanks and replacing them with two 110 kilolitre double-walled fibreglass tanks.
It said there would be new concrete pavement to the forecourt and replacement of the current fuel bowsers.
“The development also includes a cosmetic facade upgrade and a new signage scheme.”
Site works would be from 7am-5pm weekdays and 8am-noon Saturdays.
Submissions close July 30.
