Well, on Saturday at their new home at Waratahs Sportsground, the Orange Tigers unearthed their own version of the terrifying power forward – the Barry haul.
Black and golds gun Tim Barry banged home 13 majors in his side’s 26.21.177 – 4.2.26 demolition of the previously competitive Parkes Panthers as the Central West AFL nears the turn of the season.
Barry’s haul equals his personal best in Tigers colours, while it also levels a mark set by Orange coach, Dale Hunter.
“We joked about it on the weekend … he’s equaled my record from 2009,” Hunter laughed.
Barry’s swag of 13 also came in his return from injury.
“He’s probably not in the form he’d like to be given he’s managing that groin, that’s why he didn’t play the rep carnival or against the Rebels, but he came off the field on Saturday and said he felt good, which is a positive for us,” Hunter added.
After dropping the club’s first senior men’s match last week against the Bushrangers Rebels, Hunter said the Tigers wanted to rectify a couple of areas that let them down during the 11-point loss to the Bathurst club.
A poor start and wayward kicking being two of those areas.
A nine goal opening quarter did just that.
“I don’t think we every really felt threatened. We had a good start which was the talking point given our slow start the week before,” Hunter said.
The Tigers were best served by Tom Gibbons, Chris Rothnie and Andrew Henry.
