Parkes product Talesha Quinn was nigh-on speechless after her NSW side completed a history-making 16-10 victory over Queensland in the first women’s State of Origin match on Friday night.
A crowd of 6824 packed North Sydney Oval for the inter-state clash, with Blues centre Isabelle Kelly setting up a try and scoring a double – including the match-winner – to seal NSW its third straight triumph over Queensland and a maiden State of Origin victory.
The decorated Blues second-rower hit social media after the game, one she played the entire duration of on NSW’s right edge.
“What a moment not only for us as NSW but women’s rugby league. We are a part of history. I love my blues family. Thank you for everyone’s support,” Quinn said.
Former Orange Hawks league tag star and Orange Emus rugby union whiz, Vanessa Foliaki was jubilant following the win.
The tough-as-nails lock battled injury during the opening half and left the field during the first period but returned for the final stages of the origin clash to help NSW hold on to its six-point lead.
“I was not born in NSW, but I found my home here eight years ago and I’m so bloody proud to represent my state,” the former James Sheahan Catholic High School student said.
The 2018 women’s State of Origin is a one-off game this season but there’s already calls for future women’s origins to be a three-match series.
