My FootDr Orange Podiatrist, Chris Lofts, said there is a clear information gap among Australians about the importance of foot health. “Most foot conditions are preventable, but they are being ignored because there a distinct lack of awareness around proper care of feet and knowing who to turn to for professional advice”.
“Feet are a foundation for your body and taking them for granted could lead to permanent issues such as arthritis or conditions in other parts of your body including legs, knees, hips and lower back,” he said.
Podiatry is the only health profession entirely devoted to the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremity. Podiatrists offer a full scope of services including comprehensive foot assessments, gait analysis, foot orthotics and even laser treatment for infections.
A simple change in style of shoe, or a prescription foot orthotic shoe insert, is sometimes all that is needed to avoid short-term or permanent damage.

“We treat all forms of foot conditions including flat feet, walking disorders, bunions and hammer toes and problems with toenails including fungal nails of ingrown toenails, however they also assess feet and advise on changes that prevent long-term problems,” he said.

Mr Lofts said he strongly encouraged people to adopt a wellness and preventative approach to foot health. “People often wait for a problem to occur, but they should be putting their wellness first by having an annual podiatry check-up, much like a regular trip to your dentist is for your teeth,” he said.
