Cash, cigarettes, drinks and tools were reported stolen by several people in the same area.
One alleged offender was caught on CCTV inside a car and crossing a front lawn.
Tallarra Fisher said she and partner Justin Kay woke to find both their cars parked in the driveway and on the lawn of their Anson Street home had been broken into.
“Smokes, loose change and energy drinks were taken from my car,” she said.
“The glove box was down.
“My partner could see his window had been pushed down.”
She said it happened between 1.30am-6.30am.
“If I go from everyone’s else’s reports [on social media] it’s just before 3am.”
She said the lock had been forced on her car.
“We didn’t hear anything and we didn’t get up,” she said.
Natasha Walford said she didn’t realise her car had been entered at her Phillip Street home until a neighbour spoke to her in the morning and she discovered items had been rummaged through in her car.
“I accidentally left it unlocked, but nothing was stolen, I don’t leave anything valuable in my car,” she said.
Her neighbour’s CCTV captured images of a man holding a torch entering a car about 2.55am.
The neighbour, who did not give her name, said five homes in a row had been hit by the thief.
She said she had reported the thefts to Orange police and shown them the CCTV footage.
Several people took to social media to report the break-ins.
Other people reported there had been similar break-ins in north Orange in the past two weeks.
One man said $600 worth of goods had been stolen from his ute.
Police have warned people to lock up their vehicles and ensure they did not leave valuables in them.
Central West Police District crime manager Bruce Grassick said there had been a spike in thefts from motor vehicles two week ago.
“It is steady at the moment, it is still occurring,” he said.
“The vehicles [mostly] being targeted are utilities with items from the tray section.”
He said that while some thefts were occurring from homes, utes with work tools on the trays were also being robbed outside workplaces and licenced premises.
“In north Orange, we’ve noticed some activity around Phillip Street, Hill Street, Roselawn Avenue and Anson Street,” he said.
Mr Grassick said motorists needed to be careful in making sure toolboxes and vehicles were locked when unattended.
