The business that was run by Ms Russell’s grandmother Carol Russell in Lords Place for about 10 years has moved from a small shop in Summer Street to bigger premises in Peisley Street.
Mr Blackhall said they wanted to introduce sewing classes, a sit-down sewing area and demonstrations.
He said they were also looking to expand their industrial sewing machine sales and repair business.
“The bigger premises will allow us to do classes and open days,” he said.
Mr Blackhall said there was a renewed interest in sewing, embroidery and crafts.
“There is a big sewing industry in the Orange area,” he said.
He said he would concentrate on the service and repairs area while Ms Russell would expand her digitised embroidery work which involves digitising pictures or images into stitch patterns that would be available on their new website.
DOWN THE STREET
Macquarie Alarms and Security has moved out of its shop at Five Ways to bigger premises just down the road in the old MidState Communications building in William Street.
Chief financial officer Jacqui Brooks said the Dubbo-based firm, which took over the Orange business from N&N Security, had moved with Marvasti Security which will also be based in the new building.
“The previous office didn’t suit our needs,” she said.
She said they were looking to employ more staff including an extra technician and a full time office person.
Miss Brooks said the new premises would offer a range of services including service and maintenance of alarms and security systems and CCTV systems plus would look after new business in Orange.
VAN IN DEMAND
The Southsea Fresh Seafood van has been a popular visitor to Orange and now it will be stopping in Molong.
Owner Peter Rogers said following requests from people in Molong he had now begun stopping there for about 90 minutes every Wednesday morning en route to Dubbo.
“There is a lot of demand [in Molong],” he said.
However it will be a case of the early bird catching the fish as the van is in Molong from 7am-8.30am.
