I was interested to read in Monday’s paper the concern of the mayor and others about the illegal dumping going on in Kinross State Forest and the measures they are thinking of taking to stop it.

Doesn’t the State government own this area, making them responsible keep it maintained and install security if needed?
I would much prefer for our elected members (some who have gone very quite after being elected) to concentrate on council maters which concern residents every day.
If the council has money to burn and cameras to install let’s look at the two-kilometre garbage tip known as Ophir Road. Last week there was as much rubbish on the side of the road as making it into the tip.
Maybe it’s from the Resources Recovery Centre, that has blown, fallen or just been dumped there?
Going home the other week I had a single-bed mattress coming at me head on which had blown out of a caged trailer because it was not tied in.
Dangerous to say the least, but perhaps the person knew the outrageous cost to dump it?
I notice workers cleaning Bathurst Road daily … why not Ophir Road?
Why not use the cameras they want to put in the forest on Ophir Road and catch all the litterers in one go, thus giving the men and women that walk Ophir Road cleaning up this mess a break.
Remember every year we have judges for tidy towns here and council runs around to pick up everything that doesn’t move to try and win a prize.
What happens if they spring a surprise visit – that would be the end of that, wouldn’t it?
