DAY BY DAY | Objections to energy company’s do-it-yourself directive

THEY'VE GOT THE POWER: A resident's issues with their electricity provider.
THEY'VE GOT THE POWER: A resident's issues with their electricity provider.

An Orange resident was outraged recently when they received a text message from their electricity company.

The message told them their next quarterly bill would be due soon and they should submit their own meter reading through an app within 48 hours.

The message also threatened that if the resident didn’t text through the meter reading, the company would estimate their bill.

It is always a challenge for them to pay their electricity bills during winter when lights go on earlier and heaters need to be turned on.

To make matters worse, the resident lives in complex where the meters are in a locked area. The energy company has a key, the resident does not.
