Orange City Council approved the Highlands Paceway sale for $2.45 million in March last year, but a report to be considered on Tuesday night has revealed the purchaser was unable to proceed.
“The party ... has been unable to finalise the sale in an acceptable timeframe due to a legal matter not connected to either council or the site,” the report to councillors said.
Economic development chairman and councillor Jeff Whitton said the turn of events was unfortunate, but there was another avenue.
“But there are several other applicants really interested so the future still looks bright for the concept,” he said.
Staff have recommended to call expressions of interest for the site, which was rezoned for the purpose.
Discussions have covered a possible holiday park of 200 or more sites for cabins, large and medium RVs, ensuite sites, amenities, a pool, a jumping pillow and skate park, with a proposed second stage of manufactured housing.
Cr Whitton believed an operator would be found and it would be family-friendly.
“Anybody who’s been to the major parks along the eastern seaboard will know they’re little communities in themselves with all the comforts of home,” he said.
A development application will still need to be submitted and approved.
